An Eden couple spotted a completely naked man swimming and walking in the sun near Haweswater this week.
He was seen taking a dip in Blea Tarn before walking off towards Small Water and Harter Fell.
The couple said: “He was just happy in his own skin, enjoying the day. It wasn’t offensive.
“We thought it was funny when he returned to find his hat, which we thought was ironic considering the rest of the clothes he’d forgotten.”
The figure was identified by the pair as 62-year-old nudity advocate Stephen Gough, known widely as the Naked Rambler after gaining national exposure after attempting to walk the length of Britain in the nude.
The ex-Marine has been arrested more than 30 times for his exploits, spending at least five years in prison.
In 2016, Mr Gough claimed he was stepping back from public nudity in order to care for his ageing mother.
Could this sighting mean a return to naked rambling?
Have you spotted the naked rambler? If so, we’d like to know.
