Police have confirmed that a man who fell from a motorway bridge is not believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services were called shortly after 1pm to the report that a man had fallen from a motorway bridge at junction 40 of the M6.
The road was fully closed between junctions 39 and 41 as emergency services dealt with the incident.
The man was taken by ambulance to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.
Officers confirmed the road was fully reopened at about 2.25pm.
The force thanked motorists for their patience.
