A lorry driver literally became stuck between a rock and a hard place after getting into difficulties following his sat nav directions through Crosby Garrett.
The driver was travelling from Liverpool to Scotland when the device directed him through the village around 9.30am on Wednesday morning.
Coming to a narrow part in the road between two houses. the driver realised he probably couldn’t squeeze his truck through.
He attempted to reverse up the church lane and turn around but got lodged on a very large rock and his truck went over the edge of a garden wall.
Homeowner Marilyn Tinkler was in her garden at the time having a Zoom call with six European school project partners – including Italy – and dubbed the incident a “remake of The Italian Job!”
Local haulier Graham Handley, of TR Handley’s, and farmer Michael Brunskill came to the rescue with a cleverly thought out plan to free him using a load-all and manoeuvring which soon had the unhurt driver heading straight back for the main road to Scotland.
