Lloyds building on the market

Penrith’s Lloyds Bank building has been put on the market, following the announcement that the branch is to close on March 19.

Estate Agent Walton Goodland has listed the imposing King Street property, describing it as a prominent four-storey retail property and an attractive period building in a town centre location.

It is being offered at a rent of £30,000 per year, although the agent also says that a sale would be considered.

Penrith has suffered multiple blows recently, with the looming closure of both its Lloyds and Halifax branches and the recent announcement that Barclays is to follow suit and shut its branch in the town.

At the time of announcing the closure, Lloyds said there had been a significant drop in the number of people using the Penrith branch for in-person transactions, the majority of customers opting to bank online.

Branch transactions had decreased by 57 per cent over the past five years.
