A damaged wall by a Lake District road will be replaced in a four-week programme of work.
A section of the A592 on the shores of Ullswater will be reduced to one lane from next week for the essential work to be carried out on the retaining wall.
Starting on Monday, November 25, Westmorland & Furness Council said it would address a growing issue found with the structure that supports the A592, ensuring the section of road is safe to remain open throughout winter.
The council’s four-week improvement programme will see the damaged section of wall removed and replaced with a new mass-fill concrete wall with stone facing.
Existing stone from the site will be recycled and used to create a new structure that is in keeping with the local landscape.
To ensure the safety of road users and site operatives, the construction of the new wall will be conducted under a one lane closure using traffic light control that will be manned from 7am to 7pm daily.
While the council has been preparing to start work, a verge has been closed to avoid the need to restrict traffic use and weekly monitoring has been conducted
Work has also been planned to take place in the winter months to minimise disruption to local communities, businesses and visitors throughout the areas busiest period, it said.
Night working will be conducted where possible, it added.
