A Lake District hotel has been named among the top in the UK on a prestigious list of the best places to stay.
Another Place, The Lake at Ullswater was named Family Hotel of the Year in the coveted Times and Sunday Times Best Places to Stay 2023 list.
“Another Place has been a breath of fresh air since it opened in 2017…weatherproof[ing] Lake District holidays,” said Susan D’Arcy, hotels editor of The Sunday Times.
The contemporary 47-bedroom hotel is set in 18 acres of Lake District National Park, with a private lakeshore and views over Ullswater and the fells.
Will Ashworth, CEO of Another Place, said: “To be able to take a family holiday full of new experiences, but that also gives parents time to relax, feels more important than ever. To be named as Family Hotel of the Year is a real credit to our team, and the quality experience they work tirelessly to provide. We’re so proud to achieve such a respected accolade.”
This year, the hotel expanded its accommodation by launching its new Outside rooms and spaces to bring guests closer to the wild.
Outside brings a large, contemporary treehouse with floor-to-ceiling views to the lake; six beautifully handcrafted oak shepherd huts; a rebuilt ‘sheep shed’ lakeside activity cabin for warm, year-round changing; and a Victorian-style Glasshouse hosting everything from yoga sessions to woodfired pizza, coffee and cocktails.
Earning its title of Family Hotel of the Year, Another Place has an Ofsted-registered Kids’ Zone offering supervised sessions, forest school outdoor sessions, games room access and baby monitors – all included as part of guests’ stays, with babysitting as an optional extra. There’s also a substantial collection of children’s books and boardgames in the library.
A host of experienced instructors teach family activities on the lake, from kayaking trips to stand-up paddleboarding, and open water swimming for all abilities. Inside, a 20-metre pool looks straight out to the fells and sky.
This year, Another Place teamed up with local artist Sarah Taylor, to exhibit outdoor artwork for guests and visitors to find among the hotel’s shoreside gardens, meadows and treescapes. This Christmas, the gardens will be transformed into a fiery landscape aglow with handcrafted fire sculptures and flaming organic forms, in a collaboration with theatrical experience experts Walk The Plank.
