Kirkby Stephen mountain rescuers went into action on Thursday night to help a young couple who had suffered a mishap while exploring the Howgill Fells.
The young woman had twisted her ankle in a river valley a few miles from the road and, with her unable to put weight on the injured limb, help was called for.
The injury was splinted and she was stretchered out over rough and boggy ground, with help from five members of Kendal’s rescue team who were thanked for their efforts.
“Although not very far, it took several hours to complete the task, largely because of the ground conditions,” said a Kirkby Stephen team spokesman.
