A man who devoted his life to Greystoke and its community has been honoured posthumously by the village.
Eddie Walker was remembered by Greystoke Parish Council and posthumously awarded the Freedom of the Parish.
Adam Day, a parish councillor who served alongside Eddie, made the presentation to Janice, Eddie’s wife, and their sons Danny and Matty.
Sadly, Eddie and Janice’s other son, Rob, died in 2023, aged only 38.
In making the presentation , Adam said: “Eddie was a man of few words who rarely spoke first in a parish council debate, but when he did speak it was always common sense and always right.
“His work for the community is still remembered and appreciated by everyone and it is a honour to make this presentation to Janice and the family this evening.”
This award is only the second such honour bestowed in the parish of Greystoke, the other being to Roy Fisher, a great friend of Eddie’s and the Walker family.
During his lifetime, Eddie raised thousands of pounds for Greystoke causes including the village hall, football club and pool.
He put his skills as a master craftsman to good use over the years, leaving his mark on Greystoke. From restoring old oil lamp holders to making village seats, he helped residents without asking for thanks.
He was also a mainstay of the village hall committee for decades.
He coached Greystoke’s juniors when his sons started playing and taught the village children to play snooker, forming a weekly club.
