Two Eden health practitioners who realised they had a shared dream are set to showcase their business.
Ceris Owen, a chiropractor and formerly of Eden Bodyworks, and Christine Jackson, a clinical reflexologist who previously had Calico Health and Wellbeing centre, came together for the venture.
They were both seeking new premises for their respective businesses and from client feedback through referring clients to each other realised that their combined treatments were proving to be effective.
In 2018, they combined their practices to develop The Health Barn in Askham.
In May that year, with the support of Charles Lowther – the owner of Askham Hall – Ceris and Christine took on the challenge of converting his beautiful 18th century barn in Askham into The Health Barn.
Christine and Ceris had a very clear vision of what they wanted to create.
They have designed The Health Barn with the intention of becoming a health hub for Cumbria, supporting clients in the county as well as those further afield.
It was quite a challenge to create something that preserved the distinctive historical character of the building while providing one of Cumbria’s only built for purpose centres, they said.
The easily accessible building is on two floors. Downstairs they developed a reception area, two treatment rooms, a chill out area and room for the only floatation tank in Cumbria, all of which is wheelchair friendly with parking right outside. A further two treatment rooms were added upstairs in 2019.
The second large scale stage of the renovation was the second floor that is easily accessible from the back of the building.
A path leads through the newly developed garden to The Loft which has entrance space leading to the large studio for classes, workshops and group work as well as self contained kitchenette and bathroom.
Chris, Ceris and the team are showcasing what is on offer at a celebration open day on October 23 from 10am-5pm.
