As lockdown restrictions continue to be eased across the country, Penrith’s popular weekly outdoor market has returned.
People are encouraged to visit the market and enjoy some of the delicious food and local produce on offer.
Trader Jason Radcliffe, of JR Radcliffe Plants, said: “I’ve been trading for about 10 years on the market, selling plants. We do Penrith, Appleby and Kirkby Stephen market and it’s going really well.
“It has been a good turnout at the market and confidence is slowly getting back for people getting out and about. We have a wide selection of plants that we grow locally and that are really good quality, so you should come out to the market and buy local!”
Penrith market trader Geoff Crowe sells freshly-made artisan breads and pastries, made at the historic Warwick Bridge Corn Mill near Carlisle.
He said: “The mill has been there since the early 19th century, and it has only recently been restored. The flour is milled using water-driven water wheels and we’ve got the bakery there, where we make all of our baked goods.
To encourage new traders to come on board, Eden District Council is offering new traders a chance to test the waters with a no-obligation four-week free trial for their stall, with an additional six weeks on offer at a heavily discounted rate.
Existing traders can also benefit, with incentives on offer for introducing new traders to the market.
The weekly Penrith market takes place on a Tuesday from 9am to 3.30pm in the Great Dockray car park.
As well as the weekly Penrith market on a Tuesday, Eden District Council runs the monthly farmers’ market in Penrith.
New trader incentives are also available for these markets. For more details on these and other markets in Eden, visit www.eden.gov.uk/markets, telephone 01768 817817 or email markets@eden.gov.uk.
