Flood alerts are due to come into force into Cumbria later today, the Environment Agency said.
It is predicted that the next couple of days will see persistent and heavy rain across the county, particularly over higher ground, which may result in flooding.
Stewart Mounsey, flood risk manager for Cumbria, said: “Following a wet few weeks, rivers are expected to react to this rainfall and rise close to or exceed our flood alert levels.
“We will therefore have flood alerts in place for all river catchments across Cumbria from later today.
“This means flooding is possible to low lying land and roads.
“We do not expect significant impacts from this rain but we will monitor closely over the next couple of days and issue flood warnings should we anticipate any potential flooding to property.”
He added that Environment Agency staff were inspecting flood defence structures and will remove any blockages on debris screens.
