A prestigious Eden restaurant has been named among the best in England.
Allium at Askham Hall won the Taste of England Award in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.
Allium, a Michelin-starred restaurant with rooms in Askham, was one of 48 finalists to make it to the awards, following a rigorous judging process by handpicked tourism industry experts, from over 300 eligible local winners across 16 competitions.
It was announced as the winner of the Taste of England Award last week at a ceremony at Rum Warehouse at The Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.
Richard Swale, head chef at Askham Hall, said: “We are over the moon with this achievement. The food at Askham Hall is a real passion for our entire team – a complete labour of love.
“We nurture our produce, literally, from field to fork, and play a part in every step of the process in everything from growing our own fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, to rearing our own meat, so you can imagine the pride that we’re feeling at this recognition.
“To be named as one of the best food offerings in England is a dream come true. I’d like to thank our team for all their hard work and dedication in getting us here.”
Allium at Askham Hall grows and rears its own produce and offers a menu dictated by the seasons as well as an award-winning wine list overseen by Nico Chieze, renowned sommelier and maitre de maison.
