A big breakfast fundraiser is set to be held in a village pub, aimed at making a young film-maker’s dream a reality.

On bank holiday Monday (28th August) between 9am and 2pm, the Fetherston Arms, in Kirkoswald, is hosting a Big Breakfast to help raise money to get one of the pub’s former employees off to the prestigious film school in Vancouver, Canada.

Mati (Matthew) Dalton, who lives in Low Hesket and grew up in Kirkoswald, has been offered a place at the prestigious Vancouver Film School in Canada and is due to take up his place in October.

Family and friends have already been helping out with a range of fundraising initiatives and now his former employers are also planning to support Mati with the Big Bank Holiday Breakfast.

Thanks to the support he has received, Mati has already raised more than £26,000 towards the £33,000 target he has set, which will enable him to study for a diploma in animation concept art. This would open up great opportunities for him within the animation industry.

Alan Collinson, landlord at the Fetherston Arms, said: “Mati lived in Kirkoswald and worked at the Fethers for just over eight years and we are proud to be able to support him and his ambitions by hosting this Big Bank Holiday Breakfast.”

The Big Breakfast opens at 9am and as well as a fine full English there will be a half English for those with smaller appetites, as well as a classic bacon roll.

There will also be vegetarian breakfast options available. The event is cash only.

Mati said: “So many people have been so generous and supportive to help me realise my dream in what has been a difficult time.

“Having this fundraiser, the support of the Fethers and a great team of people helping us put on the event is fantastic.”

Family friend Fiona Tidbury said: “ Our dear friend Simon, Mati’s dad, sadly died earlier this year and we are doing all we can to help Mati get to the Vancouver Film School as we know how much this meant to Simon. We hope many people will come along and enjoy the Big Breakfast.”
