An Eden man has appeared in court accused of riding a motorbike at speeds of up to 130mph during what the prosecution allege was a high speed police pursuit.
Ryan Moffat (27) was charged following an alleged incident on the A6 in the Plumpton area, between Penrith and Carlisle, on 6th July. Moffat appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
One charge alleges that he rode a red Honda CB650cc machine dangerously.
Prosecutor Lee Dacre said during the short court hearing: “The allegation of dangerous driving involves a police pursuit at high speed over a sustained distance.”
He further alleged there had been a top speed of 130mph, and a speed of 100mph reached in the village of Plumpton, which has a 40mph limit. Moffat, of Brockley Moor, Plumpton, entered no plea to the dangerous driving charge.
Although magistrates concluded after hearing submissions that they were prepared to hear the case, Moffat instead elected to have it sent to Carlisle Crown Court.
He is due to appear there in front of a judge on 22nd January, and in the meantime has been granted bail.
Moffat had originally faced a charge alleging that he failed to stop for a police constable on 6th July. This has since been withdrawn by the prosecution.
