Eden now falls just outside the bottom 80 areas for its infection rate as it records 167 new cases, which is a rate of 313.6 per 100,000.

Eden now falls just outside the bottom 80 areas for its coronavirus infection rate as it records 167 new cases, which is a rate of 313.6 per 100,000.

Cumbria as a whole now has the 28th highest infection rate of all UK upper-tier local authorities.

Copeland has the seventh-highest rate of coronavirus infection in the UK.

The district has a rate of 1,100 per 100,000 people, with 750 new cases recorded in the week ending July 17.

Allerdale is now 20th for its infection rate with 817 new cases and a rate of 835.7 per 100,000 people.

Carlisle has the 27th highest infection with 832 new cases and a rate of 765.6 per 100,000.

Meanwhile, in South Lakeland, the rate of infection was slightly above the UK average with a rate of 501.5 per 100,000. It recorded 527 new cases.

The UK average is 488 per 100,000.

Also above the national average is Barrow, which has a rate of 526.5 per 100,000 and 353 new cases.

Hospitalisations

Data for the week ending July 20:

  • The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 at the North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) NHS Foundation Trust decreased from the previous week;
  • However, the average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds in NCIC increased from the previous week (19);
  • The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 and the average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds (43) in University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) both increased from the previous week.

Deaths

In the week ending July 9, there were three deaths where coronavirus was mentioned as a cause on the death certificate.
