The number of new weekly coronavirus cases in Cumbria fell by 10 per cent in the latest figures.

The number of new weekly coronavirus cases in Cumbria fell by 10 per cent in the latest figures.

There were 2,085 new cases in the county in the week ending November 5, a 224 decrease in the previous seven-day period.

For the second week in a row, Copeland had the greatest number of new cases with 435. It was also the fourth week on the bounce that the district recorded the highest rate of new cases with a rate of 639 per 100,000 people.

Here are the number of new weekly cases by district, accompanied with the rate per 100,000 in brackets:

  • Allerdale – 401 (410 per 100,000)
    Last week – 417 (426 per 100,000)
  • Barrow-in-Furness – 366 (549 per 100,000)
    Last week – 419 (628 per 100,000)
  • Carlisle – 382 (352 per 100,000)
    Last week – 412 (380 per 100,000)
  • Copeland – 435 (639 per 100,000)
    Last week – 514 (755 per 100,000)
  • Eden – 221 (411 per 100,000)
    Last week – 207 (385 per 100,000)
  • South Lakeland – 280 (267 per 100,000)
    Last week – 340 (324 per 100,000)

The UK average is 364.9 per 100,000 people.

New cases decreased from the previous week in all districts except Eden (in Eden new cases increased by seven per cent).

For the second week in a row, the 40-49 age group had the greatest number of new cases in Cumbria (+359 new cases).

However, the 12-18 and 5-11 age groups still accounted for by far the greatest rates of new cases in Cumbria (826 and 781 new cases per 100,000 population respectively).

New cases decreased from the previous week in all age groups except the 0-4 age group (an increase of 16, +36 per cent, from the previous week).

New cases in the under 50 age group accounted for 71 per cent of total new cases. The rate of new cases in the under 50 age group was 2.2 times higher than the rate of new cases in the 50+ age group.

Hospitalisations and deaths

Summary for week ending November 9:

  • The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 positive status in North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) decreased by 3 from the previous week;
  • The average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds in NCIC also decreased by 6 from the previous week;
  • The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 positive status in University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) decreased by 4
  • from the previous week;
  • However, the average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds in UHMB was unchanged from the previous week.
  • In the week to October 29 there were 13 COVID-19 related deaths in Cumbria.
