A person was taken to hospital in the early hours after being cut out of a 4×4 after a collision on the A66 on the outskirts of Appleby.
Fire crews from the town, Penrith and Kirkby Stephen, were called out to the incident at around 3.43am.
It followed a collision between a HGV and a vehicle in the area of Cafe 66.
Officials said fire crews used cutting equipment to extract one casualty from a vehicle who was left in the care of North West Ambulance Service paramedics.
Fire crews were on scene for approximately 50 minutes.
