Eden couple George and Maureen Western celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at Heather Glen Country House, Ainstable, with family.
The couple were childhood sweethearts and married at Kirkby Thore church on August 11 1962, before setting up home at Skirwith. George worked in farming and Maureen in the hospitality trade.
George went on to become a popular taxi driver for many years in the Penrith and Eden area.
The couple had four children — Shirley (now Oliver), Christine (Golding), Barbara (Challenger) and son Brian.
They moved to Raiselands Croft, Penrith, to raise their family, and have lived there for 45 years.
They are a very committed and loving family who support each other in everything they do.
George and Maureen have three grandchildren, Liam, Lee and Aidan, who adore their grandparents, and two great-grandchildren, Darcey and Ada.
