Neil Hudson hands over keys for a new Fellrunner bus to Kevin McGilloway

There will be some changes to the Fellrunner village bus Wednesday services from July 1, including the cancellation of one service due to lack of use.

The 140 service from Langwathby to Penrith via Melmerby, Ousby, Skirwith, Culgaith, Langwathby, Edenhall is being discontinued due to low passenger numbers.

The 134 service from Penrith to Penrith via Armathwaite, Ainstable, Croglin, Renwick, High Bank Hill, Kirkoswald, Lazonby, Great Salkeld and Langwathby is moving to run on Fridays from Friday, July 1.

This service will start at Langwathby at 10am and call at Armathwaite 10.25am, Ainstable 10.30am, Croglin 10.42am, Renwick 10.48am, High Bank Hill 10.54am, Kirkoswald 10.56am, Lazonby 11.01am, Great Salkeld 11.05am, and arriving in Penrith at 11.22am. The return service is at 2.35pm and travels in the same direction as above.

The Wednesday 1.30pm service Langwathby to Carlisle via Melmerby, Ousby, Skirwith, Culgaith, Langwathby, Edenhall, Great Salkeld, Lazonby, Kirkoswald, Ainstable, Armathwaite is changing times and travelling via Blencarn.

The new service, from Wednesday, July 3, will start at Langwathby at .9.15pm, Melmerby 9.26am, Ousby 9.30am, Skirwith 9.35am, Blencarn 9.40am, Culgaith 9.48am, Langwathby 9.58am, Edenhall 10.02am, Great Salkeld 10.08am, Lazonby 10.15am, Kirkoswald, 10.20am, Ainstable 10.30am, Armathwaite 10.35am to arrive in Carlisle at 11am. The return service is at 2.30pm from Carlisle bus station.

Fellrunner is a volunteer community transport group running timetabled minibus services across the Eden Valley, Tuesday to Friday each week of the year.

Its chairman Kevin McGilloway said: “I am really sorry that we have had to cancel the 140 service into Penrith on Wednesdays but there just aren’t enough passengers using this service to justify running it, and the increased costs, particularly diesel fuel, have finished it off.

“Our other Wednesday service 134 to Penrith via Armathwaite is being moved to run on Friday instead where we hope it will have more success.

“Our Wednesday Carlisle run (130) will now be our only Wednesday service and this has been retimed following passenger feedback and will now also call at Blencarn.

“My clear message to all current and prospective passengers is to use our services or lose them — once they are lost, services will never return.”

For full details of the changes and the rest of Fellrunner services, call 07734 529432 during office hours.
