One of Penrith’s iconic Christmas angels has had its head broken off after a spate of vandalism in the town centre.
Cables have also been cut on the decorations, which cost £1,300 each and are funded by town businesses.
CCTV has now been installed to keep watch and Penrith Town Council said Penrith Business Improvement District would prosecute anyone found damaging the angels.
A statement from the town council said: “It is sad that individuals think that this sort of damage is acceptable behaviour.
“Unfortunately there is no more money to repair them and if it happens again they will need to be removed and may not come back.
“Please look after and respect the Christmas decorations that are paid for by Penrith businesses and are organised and installed by volunteers.”
