irefighters tackling a barn fire in Shap were confronted with a cannabis farm.
Eden Police said the neighbourhood policing team assisted Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service yesterday morning after a fire overnight on Sunday.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service said: “At 11.23pm on September 29, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service was called to a barn fire in a remote location between Keld and Haweswater, near Shap.
“Three appliances attended the fire – two from Penrith and one from Shap – and crews extinguished the fire and were able to prevent it spreading to a neighbouring property.
“Crews were on the scene for approximately five hours.”
Eden police said: “Upon officers attending the premises, a large cannabis farm was discovered suspected to contain approximately 100 plants before the fire, with 22 remaining when the fire was put out.
“An investigation is ongoing, and officers would ask anyone with any information relating to the incident to contact police.”
