A 21-year-old Penrith man will be doing a 50-mile non-stop walk during the bank holiday weekend to raise money for charity.
Cameron Stewart will walk from his home town of Penrith to Windermere and back to raise greater awareness of young suicide and to raise funds for suicide prevention charity Papyrus.
A friend of Cameron’s took her own life six years ago and he is determined to help save more lives.
“It has been an incredibly tough year and sadly we will all know someone directly or in the community that has taken their own life. Suicide is the biggest killer of the under 35s in the UK,” said Cameron.
Cameron is well-known in Penrith where he works at the local Sainsbury’s store as a customer experience colleague.
He says he’ll be proud to be supported at the start and finish of the walk by fellow Cumbria fundraiser Andy Airey who lost his 29-year-old daughter Sophie to suicide in 2018.
Andy has since become an ambassador and tireless fundraiser for Papyrus.
Cameron aims to start his walk at 6am on Sunday in Penrith.
His route will cover Askham, Howtown, Patterdale, Troutbeck, Windermere and then straight back to Penrith, arriving on the Monday.
“Young suicide is such an important issue and I’m grateful to raise more awareness about an incredible charity which is doing all it can to save lives,” added Cameron.
