Bid to create memorial for Tank – Eden Animal Rescue’s longest resident

A volunteer walker for Eden Animal Rescue is aiming to raise funds for a memorial bench for a dog who was the charity’s longest canine resident.

Tank, affectionately known  as Tanky, died following a short illness in June. He had lived at the charity’s kennels near Newbiggin, near Penrith for five years – and Sarah Harrison who used to work at Eden Animal Rescue, regularly visited him over those years, to take home for walks every week after she left to start her new job.

Sarah said: “Tank was a big part of our lives, and a real character. He was such a lovely dog.

“He was much loved by the staff and I felt honoured that he had let me be his favourite person. He always put a smile on my face, and others.

“We weren’t able to rehome, but I loved taking him out for walks. He was a very special dog and I would like to raise £1,600 for a bespoke memorial bench and tree.

“I have set up a JustGiving page to raise funds for his memorial which will create a quiet place to sit and reflect at Eden Animal Rescue’s kennels.

“Any money raised in excess of that needed for the bench and tree will be donated to Eden Animal Rescue and Dogs Trust.”

Fran Flower, of Eden Animal Rescue, said: “Our aim is always to rehome the dogs that come into our care, but there are times when a dog for one reason or another cannot be rehomed.

“However, at Eden Animal Rescue there is always a home. We are building new kennels to provide better accommodation and facilities for all the dogs but the long stay dogs really deserve the next best thing to a proper home.

“Tank was a true legend, after being with us for five years, he was part of Eden Animal Rescue and stole the hearts of all who cared for him with his loving and loyal personality.

“When Sarah came to take him out you could see the joy in his face. They had such a special bond, and it is such a lovely tribute to Tank that Sarah is planning.”

Donation to Tank’s memorial can be made via Just Giving – Crowdfunding to raise funds for a bespoke memorial bench and tree in loving memory of Tank on JustGiving.  https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/sarah-harrison-593?utm_term=2eWw3JBwY
