Award-winning Lake District holiday park to introduce wellness features

The Quiet Site, Ullswater.

The Quiet Site, Ullswater, recently named as the overall holiday park winner in this year’s Visit England Awards, says that “wellness” will be among the new features it has to offer.

The Visit England judges said the park fully deserved first place, thanks to its outstanding facilities, amazing range of accommodation and care for the environment.

Now, the family-run business says it intends to add a wellness vibe to its facilities with the creation of a centre dedicated to benefitting the minds and bodies of guests.

It will include classes focused on yoga and Pilates, and training on fresh-air exercise equipment.

Daniel Holder, who runs The Quiet Site with his wife Anne and their son George, said the facility is likely to have a special appeal to many of the park’s customers: “Almost nine out of 10 of our bookings are either repeat visitors or here as a result of a personal recommendation — and many guests share similar holiday preferences,” said Daniel. “Tranquil and beautiful surroundings are often a priority, and so too is somewhere to stay which has all home comforts, and is additionally both memorable and perhaps a bit quirky.

“We hope we will now be able to add to their experience by offering different ways to improve physical and mental wellbeing in this glorious setting,” added Daniel.

Among existing guest facilities are an award-winning bar-in-a-barn dating from 1680; pizzeria and creperie; zero waste park shop; and free high-speed wi-fi.

Daniel acquired the park in 2000 as a simple camping field with sweeping views across Ullswater, and has since added an eclectic range of high quality accommodation options. They include underground Glamping Burrows, cabins and timber pods, plus energy-positive Gingerbread Houses. There are also touring pitches for tents, touring caravans and motor homes.

The Quiet Site’s many awards over the years include environmental accolades for its care of the natural world, and tourist board recognition for its high quality standards.

A few years ago, it also became the first park in Britain to win the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, and is now permitted to fly the Queen’s Award flag.

But Daniel said that this year’s top England for Excellent award had a special significance.

“As well as assessing the quality of our facilities, a major part of the judging criteria is the quality of the hospitality which we provide to holiday guests.

“Maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere here has always been an important priority, and so we owe a big debt of gratitude to our team for helping us deliver this,” said Daniel.
