A plea has been made to help mark the 100th birthday of a former Penrith woman who emigrated to Canada.
Born on 8th November, 1923, Marjorie Try (formerly Marjorie Dodd) grew up in the village of Tirril alongside her late sister Vera Dodd (later Vera McCormick) before they moved to William Street, Penrith, as teenagers.
In 1945, she received her general nursing certificate before undergoing additional training at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
In 1955, Marjorie moved to Canada with her husband Edward Try and their son Tony.
Her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Williams, would love to surprise her this year with birthday cards sent from her home town, Penrith, and surrounding areas.
“Due to her age, my grandma has been unable to visit England for many years.
“We believe the last time she was back in Cumbria was in 1991 which is a little over 30 years. She would love any card she receives, regardless of whether she knows the sender,” said Kaitlyn.
“Over the last couple of years on social media I have seen people do callouts for cards and I always thought I would really like to do that for my nana’s birthday.
“We really think it would be something special and she would really like that,” she added.
Details of how to contact Kaitlyn can be found on her Facebook page.
