A call has been made for historical footage of the Eden Valley which residents might have on “home movies” that may be stored away.
Asby History Group, Great Asby Cinema and St Peter’s Parochial Church Council are working with the North West Film Archive (NWFA), based at Manchester Metropolitan University, to present the results of a project called Film in the Eden Valley, in Great Asby village hall on Friday, 17th November.
A spokesman said: “Most of the material to be shown will be from NWFA’s stock of film from various dates in the 20th century. However, the groups organising this event are eager to obtain more local film that readers may have in forgotten drawers or boxes.
“If you live in or around Appleby, Orton, Kirkby Stephen or Brough, and have any 8mm film dating from, say, 1935-1975, which captured farming activities, fairs, agricultural shows or village events of whatever kind (or you just think you’ve got some ‘interesting stuff’), please contact the secretary of Asby History Group, Keith Cooper, at khcooper1@aol.com or call him on 017683 52204.
“NWFA will need a little time to scan the material into a digital format, so could you please contact Keith Cooper by Tuesday, 10th October.”
