Alston resident Dorothy Gilder celebrated her 100th birthday milestone on Wednesday.
Dorothy still lives at home and is well known in the community of Alston.
She was married to the late Fred Gilder, and is a mother, grandmother and a recent great-grandmother. She has a loving family and many friends.
Dorothy was born in Alston in 1924 and has fond memories of growing up on a farm with her family. She worked in factories in World War II and then travelled to various places in the UK for Fred’s work before returning to her beloved Alston.
She is known for her sense of humour, kindness, generosity and her inspiring ‘can-do’ attitude. Dorothy says the secret is to ‘keep going’ and she gets a lot of joy from her garden and those around her.
