A man in his 90s has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision on the A66 near Stainton.
The pensioner, from Penrith, was walking when he was involved in the collision with a Skoda Fabia at Baron’s Hill.
He has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.
The driver of the Skoda, a man in his 80s, from Buxton was uninjured.
The A66 in both directions at Baron’s Hill will remain closed for sometime while officers conduct their enquiries.
