Work to resurface the A592 will overrun, council bosses have said.
The roadworks, part of the Department for Transport’s Safer Road Project, will take “longer than anticipated”, according to Cumbria County Council, which has apologised for the delay.
Phase five started on 27th January and will last until 17th February, weather permitting.
It will be completed in three sections: Section one, Dacre junction to Waterfoot junction; section two: Rheged end to Dalemain junction and section three: Dalemain to Dacre junction.
During this period, the road will be closed, with work taking place between 8-30am and 4-30pm Monday to Friday. Outside of the working hours, access will be maintained where possible, but vehicles do so at their own risk.
A council spokesman said: “While we aim to complete our work each day by 4-30pm to allow the road to be accessible, it will be periodically affected as the work progresses and depending on the type of activity.
“For example, the bond coating is applied hot by a tanker and takes roughly half an hour to set and cool down. It may be necessary to delay access at times, depending on the location of the work operations.”
During the work, local businesses in Glenridding will be open as usual, but the authority is advising residents and visitors to plan their journeys ahead, as extra time may be needed to get to their destinations.
