A unique art installation – which will see 10,000 ceramic daffodils on display at a Cumbrian castle – needs you to help make it a reality.
Ten Thousand Daffodils will be shown at Lowther Castle next year and volunteers are needed to help produce the daffodils themselves.
Ten Thousand Daffodils takes its inspiration from Wordsworth’s poem and will feature a carpet of ceramic daffodils displayed among the long grass in the castle gardens.
The event has been put together by Dockray-based potter Helen Ratcliffe. The aim of the project is to raise up to £300,000 for four local charities – Another
Way, Sunbeams Music Trust, Ullswater Catchment Management CIC and Friends of the Ullswater Way and national charities The New Horizon Youth Centre and James’ Place.
The event is inspired on the hugely successful Poppies at the Tower of London.
Helen said: ‘From a fund-raising and practical point of view, Ten Thousand Daffodils presents an incredible challenge. Not only do we need to make the daffodils but we also need to glaze and fire them.
“What we are hoping to do is put together teams of volunteers so that the project becomes manageable and is also fun for all participants. Sessions will take place in a specially allocated building on the Lowther Estate and begin in early December.
“This event is intended to raise money for some very important charities. It is also a chance for our community to come together in doing so.”
