A parish meeting is to be held to discuss issues over the use of land at Fair Hill during Appleby Horse Fair.
Appleby town councillors were told at a meeting that email complaints about the matter had been received from 73 Appleby residents.
A spokeswoman said: “The emails had consisted of the same content, which had been generated from a survey link posted in the Appleby Fair Communities Group Facebook page.”
The council was asked to hold a parish meeting to discuss issues over which residents have raised concerns in relation to the annual fair, which brings thousands of members of the gypsy and traveller community to the town. The issues relate specifically to the use of Fair Hill for the purpose of the fair, with Appleby council being urged to distance themselves from the fair.
“The group have also requested that Appleby council represent them in their request to Westmorland and Furness Council for their council tax not be used to fund the fair, as well as concerns around their lack of transparency regarding associated costs,” said the spokeswoman.
It was agreed a parish meeting should be held as requested and a suitable date will be arranged.
