38 Cumbria areas with coronavirus infection rates above national average

Cumbria has seen its coronavirus infection rate soar – with 38 areas now above the national average.

The county now has an infection rate of 554.8 per 100,000, which compares with the England average of 502.4 per 100,000.

In the week ending March 9, there were 2,774 cases in Cumbria.

Just five days earlier, Cumbria had an infection rate of 336 per 100,000.

There were 16 fatalities in the county where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate in the week ending February 25.

Here are all of the areas with a higher infection rate than the England average:

  1. Kendal South – 102 (1,159.7 per 100,000)
  2. Hawcoat & Furness Abbey – 68 (905.1 per 100,000)
  3. Kendal Town & Greenside – 70 (822.1 per 100,000)
  4. Kingmoor, Houghton & Whiteclosegate – 84 (805.5 per 100,000)
  5. Burton-in-Kendal, Levens & Natland – 58 (794.7 per 100,000)
  6. Grange-over-Sands & Cartmel Penisula – 63 (772.2 per 100,000)
  7. Boltons , Warnell & Solway Coast – 49 (701 per 100,000)
  8. Belle Vue & Burgh – 52 (697.5 per 100,000)
  9. Windermere North, Ambleside & Langdales – 44 (693.1 per 100,000)
  10. Parkside – 45 (688 per 100,000)
  11. East Cockermouth & Buttermere – 54 (684.9 per 100,000)
  12. Hensingham, Hillcrest & Aikbank – 66 (667.5 per 100,000)
  13. Appleby, Shap & Kirkby Thore – 66 (664.1 per 100,000)
