A 13-year-old mountain biker was injured at the weekend.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team was called out at around 1.10pm on Saturday to Coombs woods, near Armathwaite.
The 13-year-old had attempted a jump and landed awkwardly, hitting a stump which led to suspected hip and pelvic injuries.
The team said: “As the team were mobilising, a request was lodged with the Great North Air Ambulance Service for their attendance given the potentially very serious nature of the injuries.
“They were able to quickly get to the casualty site, followed shortly afterwards by team members and North West Ambulance Service paramedics.
“The casualty, having been given strong pain relief by the air ambulance doctor, was immobilised in a full body vacuum mattress and stretchered through the woods to an ambulance for onward travel to hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
