Ullswater country pub to reopen in spring

Brackenrigg Inn, Ullswater

A country pub purchased by Ullswater-side hotel Another Place is to open in spring as part of the hotel’s Lake District offering.

Another Place, The Lake has added nearby pub The Brackenrigg Inn to its portfolio and guests staying at The Brackenrigg will in future have full use of everything on offer at Another Place, including its swimming pool, lakes sports coaches and equipment, Kids Zone, three restaurants and a library.

Announcing the launch this week, owners of Another Place said room rates at the Brackenrigg would start at £120 per night.

“Roaring fires, real ales, good company — traditional pubs have long been an essential feature of Cumbrian life; a place to gather, connect and relax after a day in the fells. And The Brackenrigg Inn is no exception,” said a spokesman.

On a hill overlooking Ullswater — just five minutes’ walk from Another Place, The Lake — the pub  is reopening this spring in the first step of its three-year transformation.

The Brackenrigg will “build on its local heritage while adding a contemporary design standard, to create a unique Lakeland experience”.

The longer term plans (in stage 2) are to re-establish the inn’s microbrewery and tap room (the ‘Brack n’ Brew’ brewhouse was set up in a converted stable block and ran from 2015-22). Outside, six acres of meadows will include a kitchen garden and orchards to supply produce to the kitchens at both The Brackenrigg and Another Place; an events meadow for feast nights and summer dining; a nature-inspired children’s play area; barbecue and fire pit areas; and the potential for more outdoor accommodation closer to the elements.

Judi Blakeburn, Another Place CCO, said: “Following the success of Outside — which extended the hotel’s guest experience with a treehouse, shepherd huts and a glasshouse  — we were looking for other ways to enhance the Ullswater experience for our guests.

“The Brackenrigg Inn offers that in spades. It’s a country pub in the truest sense, the beating heart of local life where a community gathers and connects. We’re excited to build on that with our unique Another Place perspective, bringing culture, conscience and care together to create a place that celebrates tradition but feels welcoming and modern.

“Beyond our guests, The Brackenrigg presents the opportunity to strengthen our ties with the community we’re a part of and that’s something we’re really fired up about. It’s going to be a very special place.”
