Easegill Head Farm, Wharton, Kirkby Stephen, is again to be the scene of Lambing Live — but this time the lambing really will be live.
The farm, run by the Marston family, will be thrown open to the public on Saturday, March 18, from 2pm to 4pm, so they can learn about farming in the Westmorland Dales.
The Marston family hosted the BBC series Lambing Live in 2011, when it proved very popular and did much to increase public knowledge of life on a northern upland farm and how food is produced.
On March 18, visitors will have a chance to experience the farm and talk to the Marstons, who farm 400 acres with 850 breeding sheep and 50 suckler cows. The event will include a walk and feeding pet lambs.
The day is being held as part of a project called Sustaining Farming in the Westmorland Dales which is managed by the Farmer Network. It is just one of 22 projects being delivered as part of the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Farmer Network co-ordinator Carol Moffat said: “Lambing is such a critical time of year in the farming calendar and it is an opportunity to learn about what happens behind the scenes.”
Booking is essential by Wednesday, March 15. Call the Farmer Network on 01768 868615.
