Trade twice hit 20,000gns at the Limousin bull sale held at Carlisle on Saturday. The 70 bulls forward averaged £7,579, which was up by £250 on the year.
One of the bulls which made the top price was Ampertaine Shanghi, which caught the attention of the Ridley family, whose pedigree Haltcliffe Limousin herd is based near Hesket Newmarket.
Brought forward by James McKay, Co Derry, this April 2021-born bull was sired by Whinfellpark Lomu out of the home-bred cow Ampertaine Origin.
Placed first in his class was Tomschoice Snoopdog, from JM and SP Cooper, with a beef value of LM46. He was bought for 20,000gns by GP Vaughan, Dolcorsllwyn, Powys.
The champion was Spittalton Stag, presented by J Burnett and Sons, Upper Spittalton Farm, Stirling, which sold for 19,000gns.
Sired by Ampertaine Opportunity, Stag has a beef value of LM47 and went home with R Simpson and Son, Mains of Creuchies, Perthsire.
