A Cumbrian village inn is on the market for £400,000.
The Yanwath Gate Inn, near Penrith and Pooley Bridge, has been put up for sale with David Britton Estates.
Most recently operating as a gastropub under the watchful eye of one of celebrity chef Simon Rogan’s protégés, Louie Lawrence, it has been closed since 2022.
The sale also includes an adjoining two-bedroom cottage.
David Britton said: “I am a huge fan of heritage and buildings that have a story – and I’m pretty sure if the walls could speak at the Gate Inn, they could keep an audience enraptured for hours.
“There are so many potential uses for this building, and I feel positive that a new owner with vision, imagination, and drive could make incredible things happen here.
“Space, potential, and charm are available in abundance. I do not expect this property to be on the market for long.”
The Yanwath Gate Inn was originally two separate houses, which were altered during the 19th century.
The earliest house is dated 1683 on its window lintel. The other is thought to be from the early 18th century.
The Grade II-listed pub is said to be named after its original function as a toll gate on the turnpike road.
The site also has a lapsed planning consent for two detached dwellings in the car park.
