Penrith is in the top 10 of most searched for UK towns for a break, according to a holiday rentals search engine.
Holidu, founded in 2014 and based in Munich, has more than 14 million holiday homes on its books across the globe and works with major lettings agencies.
It commissioned a study to find out the top 30 destinations in the UK people searched for in the last 12 months.
All towns with less than 20,000 inhabitants were considered for the study and their ranking was drawn up using the average number of monthly searches on Google for these towns with the terms “what to do” and “things to do”.
Penrith came in at number eight, with 1,810 searches a month, beating Skipton and Aberystwyth. Berwick upon Tweed was 30th with 730 searches.
First was Whitby, with 6,280 searches.
