A ‘hidden gem’ of a caravan park is hoping to benefit from the staycation boom following investment by its new owners.
Hesket Caravan Park is a long-established site – but not a particularly well-known one.
Having been taken over and redeveloped by North West-based specialists Hoeys Caravans last autumn, the easing of lockdown regulations meant that the park could officially open to visitors and prospective buyers this week.
Frederika Swallow, company personal assistant for Hoeys Caravans Ltd, said: “An incredible amount of work has gone into the redevelopment and maintenance of the Park, and we have completely put our own stamp on it.
“The site was lacking a bit of character and not many people really even knew it was here. You couldn’t really tell from the roadside what it was as it was a bit hidden.
“It was like starting with a clean slate as we have had to change everything and add a bit of character.”
Situated alongside the A6, almost exactly half-way between Carlisle and Penrith, Hesket Caravan Park is looking to establish itself as one of the premier sites in the region.
Angelique Sansome, of Real Deal Me, is on board to help the park reach new customers, and help put it firmly on the map.
Only two pitches were occupied when Hoeys took over and already there has been strong demand for the new caravans.
Owners can also sublet their caravans to holidaymakers of their own accord.
“This way owners on the park can come and go as they please and also they are allowed to sublet their holiday home for no extra cost.
“We have a wide range of prices to suit all budgets, and site fees will be low – at the moment we have no site fees until January 2022.”
Anyone who may be familiar with the site already – or those who have driven past – will not be sad to see that the giant green shed that blocked the views has been removed.
Instead, the park now includes a specially-fitted children’s play area, a new wooden office and a sales showground, while lighting, roads and the pitches themselves have all been improved.
A much more welcoming sight will greet visitors, with featured gates, Hoeys’ signature stag and elk statues, and a soon-to-be-completed barbecue hut.
“We’re looking forward to opening and inviting people to come and see this hidden gem for themselves,” a spokesman added.
“With staycations set to boom this year, we are already taking appointments for viewings.”
