Almost 4,000 people have signed our petition to Save Newton Rigg – and we need you to add your voice to our campaign.
MPs grilled the operators of the agricultural college this week as part of a Parliamentary inquiry into land-based education and ask them why the decision was made to pull out of Cumbria.
Newton Rigg, near Penrith, has a long and distinguished history in the county, but its owners – Askham Bryan – announced last year that it was closing the campus.
Dr Tim Whitaker, chief executive of Askham Bryan College, and Judith Clapham, its director of governance, were summoned to appear before the Environment, Food and Rural and Affairs Select Committee as part of an inquiry into land-based education.
A statement after the inquiry said: “MPs were left with a clear impression of the need for continued land-based education provision at Newton Rigg in Cumbria.”
So we need you to help press that point home – we want to save the future of farming in Cumbria.
