A Penrith youngster is going the extra mile for charity next month.
Kallen Crouch, 10, is set to walk more than 10,000 steps a day during March to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
After setting an initial target of £100, Kallen has already received more than £350 for the charity and shows no sign of slowing.
Kallen’s grandfather had leukaemia and great-grandfather had bowel cancer so the cause is very close to his heart.
His mother Tracy James said: “He’s really excited and just can’t wait to get going.
“We do lots of walking with the dogs and track our step count anyway. He’s got his little pedometer and it is his personal goal to always get in more steps than anyone else.”
Kallen was inspired to take up the challenge by his teacher, Mrs Love of Langwathby Primary School, who suggested he take part in the charity’s national campaign, Walk All Over Cancer.
The money will go towards lifesaving research that will benefit cancer patients and help raise awareness amongst the wider public about the disease.
His mother started fundraising for him through Facebook and was overwhelmed by the support he received.
She added: “He’s not even started and he’s already raised more than we thought he would. I think it’s absolutely brilliant what he’s doing. I know he’ll complete it because he’s very determined.
“He’s always running up and down the stairs. Even when he’s on his PlayStation he’s moving around.
“If people donated as little as one pound, we’d be really happy. It goes to a great cause.”
