Penrith’s Devonshire Street has re-opened to traffic – with the road closure for gas works now moving onto King Street.
A spokeswoman said: “Northern Gas Networks is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers on Middlegate, Devonshire Street and King Street in Penrith.
“The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.”
Devonshire Street is now back open to traffic up to the Musgrave Monument.
“Phase three of the scheme will be completed in three weeks’ time, with an end date being scheduled for Friday, March 8,” the spokeswoman added.
