A landmark business in Penrith’s New Squares development has closed.
Chris Clough, owner of the Chopping Block butcher and deli, said that tough times on the high street had led to the decision, which was taken with a heavy heart. He thanked loyal customers and staff for their support.
The Chopping Block, in Two Lions Square, was named as best new butchery business of 2020 in the Meat Trade Journal butcher’s shop of the year awards, having opened in June, 2019.
On Facebook this week, Chris said: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the doors of the Chopping Block have opened for the last time.
“We have given it our best shot over the last five years, but sadly things must come to an end.
“I wanted to say a huge thank you to all our loyal customers, for your support and friendship.
“A massive thank you to staff past and present, who without, I couldn’t have had such a fantastic five years!
“Times continue to be tough for many of us and, as a business owner I am fully aware of how difficult it is. We’ve hurdled many obstacles along the way and have lots of success to look back on and be proud of.
“So, one last goodbye from me to you. I’m now looking forward to spending some quality time with my family.”
