A provisional trial date has been set by a judge in the case of a man accused of intentionally causing another male grievous bodily harm in Penrith.
Anthony Scafie (34), previously of Southend Road, Penrith, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday, where he faces one charge. This alleges that he unlawfully and maliciously caused another man grievous bodily harm with intent to do so. The allegation arises out of an incident alleged to have taken place in the town on 20th April this year.
Scafie also faces a second charge which alleges that he was in possession of class B controlled drug cannabis on the same date.
Judge Nicholas Barker was told that Scafie was not represented by a lawyer at the hearing. The judge adjourned the case for three weeks, until 18th December, when it is envisaged that the defendant will enter pleas to the charges.
In the meantime, a trial date was provisionally listed. This would start in front of a jury in the week of 15th April next year and, it is estimated, would last around three days.
In the meantime, Scafie was granted conditional bail.
