The owners of a beauty salon which has proved a great success on the Kirkby Stephen high street have expanded the business to Sedbergh.
Owner of The Beauty Rooms Vicky Luke, aged 40, has lived and worked in Kirkby Stephen since 1999.
She opened The Beauty Rooms on the town’s Market Street in October, 2019, after being based from home for 18 months doing beauty treatments from her dining room.
“I started on my own but the team grew quickly when Hannah and Anthea joined me on a self-employed basis,” she told the Herald. “COVID struck in March, 2020, and the salon was closed until July, 2020, going in and out of lockdown until the country officially reopened for business.
“Since then, the salon has gone from strength to strength and on 7th October we officially opened our second salon in Sedbergh.
“We now have a team of six employed therapists between the two salons, who all offer a range of beauty treatments from nails, lash and brow treatments to facials and body massage.
“Based in Kirkby Stephen, we also have a sports therapist two days a week, an experienced facial and massage therapist one day a week and an aesthetics nurse who does two clinics a month.”
Vicky said that while preparing for the opening of the Sedbergh salon, the team experienced a flood in August which closed the salon in Kirkby Stephen.
“We didn’t have to stop trading though as the two local hair salons came to the rescue and offered us space in their salons so we pampered from there and avoided any cancellations at all. The repair work is still ongoing in Kirkby Stephen but should be completed by mid-November.”
