One new coronavirus death has been recorded at North Cumbria Integrated Care Trust in the last 48 hours, the latest official figures show.
NHS England figures show 244 people had died in hospital at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm yesterday.
That was an increase of one compared to Tuesday, when there were 243.
It means there have been 13 deaths in the past week, up from seven the previous week.
The victims were among 8,077 deaths recorded across the North East and Yorkshire, which is the third-worst affected of England’s seven NHS regions after the Midlands and the North West.
Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.
This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.
NHS England guidance states: “Confirmation of COVID-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure.”
Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for COVID-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.
Meanwhile, latest figures show that the trust was caring for 35 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday.
The data shows that the number of people being treated in hospital for COVID-19 by 8am on December 15 was down from 44 on the same day the previous week.
The number of beds at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for COVID-19 decreased by 62 per cent in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 93.
Across England there were 15,031 people in hospital with COVID as of December 15, with 1,159 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.
The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalised has increased by four per cent, while those on mechanical ventilators has decreased by six per cent, in the last four weeks across England.
The figures also show that 17 new COVID patients were admitted to hospital in North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust in the week to December 13.
This was up from 11 in the previous seven days.
