Pupils at Appleby Grammar School and Kirkby Stephen Grammar School have been sent home this morning after cases of children testing positive for COVID-19.
This means children will be self-isolating until they are allowed out on Christmas Day and will not return to school until January.
At Appleby Grammar School the entire year seven bubble has been sent home after a child tested positive for the virus.
Kirkby Stephen Grammar School had the same scenario with a single positive test from a year seven pupil.
Headteacher Gary Hartley said they had instead taken the decision to send home only part of the year group bubble.
The school has asked pupils in the child’s tutor group to self-isolate along with individual pupils across the year groups that are on the child’s school bus route.
