Plans to expand Lowther Holiday Park with 125 new luxury caravans have been revealed.
The park has submitted an application to Eden District Council for the scheme.
Park bosses want a change of use for agricultural land on the site at Eamont Bridge.
The site is associated with the Lowther Castle estate, which is to the south of the park, and surrounded by large areas of open fields, ancient woodland and to the east, the River Lowther.
Nearby is Yanwath Woodhouse Farm, a Grade II listed building.
The planning application said: “From the information gathered within the assessment, it found that: ‘…the visual impact on the adjacent listed building and outlying elements of one of the two scheduled monuments could be relatively severe due to the proximity to the proposals, although the impact on the World Heritage Site, registered park and garden and the second scheduled monument, would be fairly minimal due to the intervening topography and woodland.’
“The proposals will therefore aim to consider the impact on these key features and be designed with sufficient stand-off distances, landscaped buffer zones and low density of development within close proximity to these important heritage assets.”
As part of the development, a new pond would be created and a large area of open space has been designed, plus plans for a potential play area at the southern area of the site as part of the extension.
There are plans to run the electricity cables underground for efficiency and to “improve the setting of the development as well as the adjacent scheduled land and the wider countryside.”
