A Cliburn country house, which has 21 bedrooms and has previously been granted planning approval to become a hotel, has been sold.
Crossrigg Hall, described as a captivating Grade II* country house, had a guide price of £2,750,000, and is believed to be one of Eden’s most expensive properties.
The property was designed by Anthony Salvin in 1864 and significantly re-modelled and extended in 1914 by J.H. Martindale.
It retains original period features including original Maples & Co wall coverings, ornate mouldings, original working fireplaces and striking panelled walls.
There are several original Salvin ceilings in the principal rooms, and an oak staircase with three turns rises from the hall.
Sheila Houston, senior property consultant at Finest Properties, confirmed this week that Crossrigg Hall has sold.
The identity of the buyer has not been disclosed, but they have been named locally as Andrew Tinkler, former chief executive of Stobart Group Limited.
