The organisers of Alston Gala are finalising plans for the big day on Saturday, 24th June.
The family-friendly annual event began in the early 1970s, and quickly became one of the highlights on the Alston Moor events calendar. This year the fun starts at 12-30pm on Tyne Willows playing field and inside the huge marquee. As always entry is free.
Main attractions include the elite strongman and strongwoman competition, performances from local musicians and Alston and Eden Dance School, a classic car, motorbike, tractor and engine show, magic shows and circus skills.
Other favourites will include a dog show, slides, rides and inflatables, wheelbarrowing racing, trade stalls, and, of course, a licensed bar and refreshments.
New for 2023 is a children’s fancy dress disco with live DJ the evening before the gala, Friday, 23rd June, with prizes for the best costumes. The disco takes place inside the marquee, starts at 6-30pm and runs until 8pm.
Get down early and bring chairs or a blanket to make a day of it. Limited free parking is available.
